Week 4: Silence is...
This week, I examined the topic of silence, more specifically, it being equally as (if not more) powerful than speking out.
The main points gathered from the reading and the film Whitewashed: Unmasking the World of Whiteness I got are depicted in this infographic below.

1. Beginning
Desire to separate where the people came from, altering last names to get jobs (assimilation to dominant white culture)
Thus conforming to become white (giving up identities for sake of whiteness)
2. Privilege from expectation
Moving through the world fearlessly, not having to think about race, (privilege and access)
- Embedded everywhere: expectations match reality, white - acceptable person
3. Consequence
Racism is changing and mutating
White privilege demonstrated in daily life
SILENCE IS DOMINANT
