Week 5: Surveillance State Or Way of the Future

This week, I watched the film, Surveillance State or Way of the Future, which was a documentary providing insight into the current trends of the Chinese government's involvement in the everyday life surveillance of its citizens.  I think it was a very interesting analysis of the current situation, its relevance was highlighted in its analysis of the behavior during the Covid-19 pandemic.  I don't really like talking in front of the camera, but I tried my best :)  Here is the link to my vlog: https://youtu.be/5HCJztTi8XM Source:  DW Documentary. Privilege from expectation Moving through the world fearlessly, not having to think about race, (privilege and access) - Embedded everywhere: expectations match reality, white - acceptable person 3. Consequence Racism is changing and mutating White privilege demonstrated in daily life SILENCE IS DOMINANT I created these two infographics in order to showcase the main points I gathered from the reading and videos:

The Code of Gender film I have seen this week brought about many interesting topics, that further illuminated the way that society “deals with” and has formed people’s unique understandings of gender and what it means to cultures/society. Right now, the Western culture’s basic starting point is that there are 2 sexes and consequently two gender norms that society conforms to. however, this has been changing, as the understanding of gender is evolving. However, the basic “understanding” that many people still have, is that if one does not fit into the category, they are not conforming to the social standard and thus are negatively different.  We, in society, are thus “coded” into this thinking, since childhood - such as the toys that we are “assigned” to play with (males - cars, females - dolls), the colors we should like, as well as the behavior we should portray, such as females being girly, dressing up, taking care of others, and being submissive. Judging based on the conformed i...
